This is one of the screen shots that someone at
Gamestop took of the display case for reserving MW on the
Wii. Sad isn't it? Do we really need to be this desperate to find any new info on this game? I guess the simple answer, is "yes" unfortunately.
Activision should be ashamed of themselves for not even releasing any new screens, videos or ads concerning that this game even exists on the
Wii. I myself was starting to wonder if this game was really coming out or if it was just a joke. To it's credit; the development team seems to have been working hard on this game to make it as close to the
HD versions as possible and they should get a pat on the back for that. I don't think it's their fault that
Activision hasn't done anything to help their cause by essentially leaving them behind and forgetting about them so that Modern Warfare 2 gets all the publicity.
At least this isn't an on-rails shooter and at least
Activision isn't coming out and saying that this game is a "test" of the Mature market on
Nintendo's system. Believe me, the Mature market is pretty decent on the
Wii and it would be a lot better if developers stop testing and teasing us with these "Mature" games that are dumbed down so "everyone" can play them. How does that work anyway? Sounds like gaming suicide to me. If Dead Space Extraction was really meant for the the hardcore mature gamer, why did the developer keep saying that anyone could pick it up and play? This attitude kind of defeats the purpose of making the game in the first place since if it's rated Mature not everyone can just pick it up and play it. Also since it's been simplified down to an on-rails experience, it's not going to be nearly as appealing to the actual "hardcore" gamers who want more control and interaction with games. So when Dead Space flopped, what the hell did EA expect? After that, of course, they release a statement basically saying: "see, we tried but no one bought the game so don't expect anymore Mature experiences from us" after already saying that
DSE was a "test the Mature market on
Wii" game. Yes, the game failed and I'm happy it did. There was no ads on TV for it and the developer simplified a game
thats meant for an adult audience. Let this be a lesson to those Third Parties that want to follow suit: this type of game development just doesn't work. end of story.
How many posters, countdown clocks and ads have you seen for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2? That game is everywhere! It's amazing actually. It's hard not to get sucked in by the hype since the game does look good and judging by how great COD4 was, there is no reason why MW2 won't be just as good. Especially on PC (
lol). The point is, I have not seen one instance where a single
Wii game by a Third Party has been advertised as much as that. Never. They only have themselves to blame for these games not selling very well. Why is it when I go back and play Star Fox Adventures or Soul
Calibur II on
Gamecube they look cleaner and more detailed than 90% of all
Wii Third Party games? This is an old complaint, but it's something that still hasn't been corrected. Moving on....
I'll give you an example of how good the hardcore market actually is on
Wii. Take into consideration that just about all of the
Wii's mature or core games have had almost
no advertising whatsoever. The sales numbers that I'm going to present are actually really good since most are getting done by a sad word of mouth without any help from the people that actually made the games.
Resident Evil 4
Wii Edition: 1.6 million
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles: 1.3 million
Call of Duty World At War: 1.3 million
Call of Duty 3: 1.2 million
Red Steel: 1.2 million
The House of the Dead 2&3: 1.1 million
Monster Hunter 3: 1 million
Ghost Squad: 600,000
No More Heroes: 450,000
The House of the Dead: Overkill: 410,000
Mad World: 330,000
Medal of Honor: Heroes 2: 300,000
The Conduit: 290,000
Manhunt 2: 240,000
The numbers are provided by
vgchartz.com, I've come to trust them over the years since they are pretty close to the
NPD on month to month sales and unlike the
NPD, they actually do include
Walmart. Anyways, I think those sales are mighty impressive for core games on the
Wii and proof that a good game will find a way to sell even if it's only through bathroom talk from pit stop to pit stop (this might explain the sales for
NMH). One can only imagine how much better the sales would have been for some of these games if there was some effort on the advertising front.
It can be done my friends, if you didn't believe before, hopefully I helped.
*Update*
It seems that the game has been released (or leaked) in Europe early and someone is posting videos on
Youtube.
Activision has actively been removing these videos extremely quick, which seems really stupid and unfortunate for the game in general. Do you want this game to fail
Activision? It's bad enough that you haven't even released a new trailer or screens for this game but not even letting someone post an off camera video of it even if it appears to be a retail copy is insane.
Also, did you hear that the developer of the
Wii version of the game
Treyarch has been taken out of the opening
FMV credits for it and has been replaced by Infinity Ward? Infinity Ward didn't even make the
Wii version! What the hell is going on guys? This may be the reason why we haven't seen anything about the
Wii version of this game if Infinity Ward has control of it. They probably don't want the public to know about
Treyarch's version and only want Modern Warfare 2 to be shown first. Well isn't that just a "Fuck you
Treyarch" and "thanks but no thanks for making Call of Duty 4 on
Wii" this is just ridiculous.
